An accident on Wednesday was avoided by a split second in Hackettstown.
Video from inside a police cruiser driving down Franklin Street around 5 p.m. shows the moments an officer approached a stop sign. A car at the intersection ran the stop sign.
Hackettstown police say the Subaru was driven by a 20-year-old man from Allamuchy Township who was traveling north on Sharp Street.
The man's car narrowly missed coming into contact with the officer in the police cruiser. Police say the driver of that car was issued a summons for careless driving.
Police say this incident could have resulted in a serious crash in which the driver, front seat passenger and officer were injured. They’re reminding motorists to always pay attention while driving and to stop at stop signs.
