Thousands of beachgoers flocked to the Jersey Shore on Saturday as warm temperatures, sunny skies and Father’s Day weekend combined to create one of the busiest beach days of the year.
“You can’t beat today. Today is magnificent. The wind. No bugs. People seem to be in a really great mood. It’s Father’s Day weekend. What else can we ask for?” said Lexi Oliveri.
The comfortable conditions drew the crowds to the sand, though ocean temperatures remained cool enough in the mid 60’s to keep many people out of the water.
“The sunburn is worth it, too. It’s so beautiful outside,” said Brady, who was visiting from New York City. “The water is still cold, though.”
Many visitors spent the day playing sports instead of swimming, relaxing on the beach or gathering with friends and family.
“Some Nova guys, college buddies, came down the shore,” said Bennett, who was playing volleyball. “It’s our fourth annual. Playing some beach volleyball, enjoying the sunshine.”
The weekend also served as an early Father’s Day celebration for many families who were visiting the shore.
“I’m down here visiting my daughter for Father’s Day,” said Bob Hammer. “I try to get down at least once a year. You couldn’t ask for a better day.”
