Cranford traffic stop leads to stolen gun, drug arrests

A motor vehicle stop in Cranford led to the discovery of a stolen handgun, hollow-nose bullets and a large stash of narcotics Thursday.
According to Police Chief Matthew Nazzaro, Officers Rameil King and Ryan Heesters conducted a traffic stop at approximately 8:14 p.m. on Centennial Avenue near Grant Street for an equipment violation.
While investigating, the officers located a large amount of marijuana and prescription pills inside the car. They also found a .40 calibur Glock handgun loaded with 13 rounds of hollow-nose bullets.
The driver, Markeith Leverett, 22, of Orange, was arrested along with the passengers, identified as Yazmir Holloway, 18, and Isaiah Singleton, 23, both of Newark. They're facing multiple drug and firearms charges as well as charges of possession of CDS with intent to distribute. All three were transported to Union County Jail pending a hearing.
