Instead of spending their summer in a classroom, Rowan University students are digging into New Jersey’s past at the historic Red Bank Battlefield in Gloucester County.

As part of the university’s Field School, students studying anthropology, archaeology and history are searching for artifacts left behind during the Battle of Red Bank in October 1777.

From pottery and buttons to musket balls, each discovery helps tell the story of one of New Jersey’s most significant Revolutionary War sites.

The hands-on excavation gives students the chance to uncover history while helping preserve the state’s rich Revolutionary War heritage.
