In honor of National Cheeseburger Day, the owner of a Cranford burger shop joined News 12 in the studio to showcase some of the restaurant's most popular menu items.
Ricot Jean-Baptiste, owner of Urban Burger since 2017, has built his menu around putting a unique twist on classic burger offerings.
He brought four of the restaurant's best-selling burgers: the "Ladder 31," topped with provolone, spicy Haitian pikliz slaw and jalapeño mayo; the flagship "Urban Burger," featuring Swiss cheese, grilled onions and Urban Burger's signature red sauce; the "Biggie Smalls," made with American cheese, chopped onions, pickles, ketchup and mustard; and the "Cali Cali," a straightforward burger topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion and American cheese.
Jean-Baptiste said he never imagined a career in the culinary industry, but credits much of his success to his mother, who died in 2021.
He said she inspired his passion for cooking and helped shape the skills that ultimately led him to open and grow his business.
Jean-Baptiste also said the past two years have been challenging for small businesses and that social media marketing has played a key role in Urban Burger's continued success.
Urban Burger is located at 13 Eastman St. in Cranford.
