Court documents say the Edison day care worker charged with abusing a 2-year-old threw the child and also hit them in the face with a plastic cup.

The incident was reported by the victim’s mother, who reviewed the surveillance footage. The incident apparently happened last Thursday and was reported the next day.

Nusrat Ameen had worked at I Can Kids Child Care on Route 1 for 12 years. Employees told News 12 off camera she was let go after the charges were filed. She was arrested Monday. Family members of the other children at the day care are demanding more information.

"That surprised me," says Alex Collado, of Sayreville. "Now I'm worried about it and want to know all the details. All the details. I'm really concerned. I'm nervous right now. We are talking about small kids."

News 12 found state violations at the day care in 2020, including inadequate child versus staff ratios and inadequate sleeping equipment.          

The prosecutor’s office is working with the Edison Police Department.
