Couple accused of scaling Empire State Building appears in court

A New Jersey couple accused of scaling the Empire State Building last month was back in court on Monday.

Ivan Kuznetsov and Angelina Nikolau, of East Orange, New Jersey, are accused of sneaking into restricted areas and climbing the building’s spire in July. It was allegedly all for a viral marriage proposal.

The hearing only lasted a few minutes and the couple was told to return to court in September.

Kuznetsov and Nikolau are facing several charges, including reckless endangerment, burglary and criminal mischief.

They are allowed to remain free while the case moves forward.
