A 4-year-old girl stabbed in Paterson Friday afternoon was critically injured, according to a City Council member.
Council member Luis Velez says the incident happened on the 300 block of 10th Avenue around 4 p.m. Velez told News 12 that police are looking for the girl’s aunt.
"The aggressor is family related. It was the aunty. When they came here she was not here," Velez said.
Neighbors say that they were shocked by the news.
"I was standing right here going to the store and I saw a lady coming out the house screaming hysterically and she had a little girl in her hand," said neighbor Keema James.
The child was taken to the hospital for treatment. Officials say she was stabbed multiple times.
"They rushed her out of the house, just put her in the ambulance and took off with her," says neighbor Stanley Osbourne.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Paterson Police Department.
