Governor Jon S. Corzine?s second leg surgery Saturday was successful and state police say the driver who caused the crash was found and will not be charged.
Corzine was severely injured in a car crash on the Garden State Parkway Thursday when his SUV was hit by a vehicle that swerved to avoid an erratic driver in a red pick-up truck. The governor broke 12 ribs, his femur bone in two places, his sternum and sustained other injuries. Doctors at Cooper University Hospital said he did not suffer any brain damage.
Doctors also said the governor?s condition is progressing better than expected. Corzine is currently on a ventilator and is unable to speak.
New Jersey police found the driver of the red pick-up truck Friday and said he was not charged because he did not realize he caused the crash. According to a state official, the driver may have a mental impairment.
