Gov. Jon Corzine unveiled a gun control package Sunday while campaigning near the Paterson Police Department.
Corzine says his focus has been shifted to gun control after the recent rash of shootings in Jersey City. The gun control package will raise penalties for illegal trafficking while also banning .50-caliber firearms and launching a micro-stamping technology to put identification on shell casings. The plan also includes an upgraded life sentence for attempted murder of a police officer.
Corzine also plans to sign into law a bill that limits residents to purchasing only one handgun each month.
