Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) again addressed state lawmakers Thursday morning in an attempt to steer them toward a budget compromise.
The governor told lawmakers it's deplorable that it's been six days since the deadline for a new budget passed. Corzine says officials need to get innocent bystanders and the state out of a financial hole that's widening with the government shutdown. Quoting his father, Corzine told lawmakers, ?If you?re trying to get out of a hole, why don?t you just stop digging.? Click here to watch video of Cozine?s speech to lawmakers.
The governor and some state Assembly Democrats have been deadlocked over Corzine?s plan to raise the sales tax from 6 percent to 7.
Meanwhile, with more than 80,000 state and casino workers off their jobs, unions representing both groups plan to rally in Trenton to demand action to end the stalemate.
