The owner of a Jersey City bodega was shot and killed Tuesday morning in what police are calling an apparent robbery.
The owner of Albert's Grocery Store was working alone, police say, when the altercation occurred. Witnesses say a man entered the store and that an argument may have broken out before the shooting occurred.
Prosecutors are calling the death a "senseless murder."
Residents say the store was a family-run business and that its owner was a kind man and a watchdog for the community.
"He was a neighborhood guy,? says resident Robin Daniels. ?He looked out for everybody. This happened during the day. It's a nice, quiet neighborhood. It's shocking."
The man?s two daughters, wife and mother all worked at the store. The county prosecutor?s office is now investigating the case.
