Experts are offering tips on how residents can protect themselves from package thieves this holiday season.
Sometimes the thieves are caught red-handed on surveillance camera -- walking right up to houses and swiping packages off their front porches.
"We are getting calls people going home to see their packages and they're not finding them," says Detective Dennis Ferray, with the Wayne police department.
To protect yourself from package theft, try requesting your signature be required for delivery, experts say. This way if you're not home, the package will be held for pickup.
In addition, consider having your packages shipped to your workplace or to a neighbor. If you shop online, think about buying a lockable package vault.
