New Jersey Congresswoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman (D-New Jersey) has tested positive for COVID-19, confirming she had the virus on Twitter.
Congresswoman Watson-Coleman oversees the 12th district of New Jersey. She’s a 75-year-old cancer survivor. She says she's experiencing mild symptoms, but is in good spirits.
She believes she was exposed to the virus while sheltering with lawmakers last week at the U.S. Capitol during the attempted insurrection.
Congresswoman Watson-Coleman decided to get tested after she says she was exposed to several colleagues who refused to wear masks. Watson-Coleman did go to a hospital for a monoclonal antibody treatment, but is now home recovering and quarantining.
A second congresswoman, Pramila Jayapal, of Washington, also tested positive for COVID-19.
Watson-Coleman sent well wishes to Jayapal on Twitter, as well as her Repulican and Democrat colleagues, saying, “I implore anyone who sheltered at the Capitol during the attack to get tested."
The congresswoman did recently receive her first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, which was made available to members of Congress.
