(AP) - Commuters got a chance to add their 2 cents to plans to raise Port Authority tolls and PATH fares.
A public hearing was held Thursday at Newark's Gateway Center.
The agency wants to raise rush-hour tolls on Hudson River and Staten Island crossings from $6 to $8. PATH fares would go up 50 cents to $2. The increases would take effect next year.
More than 120 million drivers cross Port Authority bridges and tunnels from New Jersey to New York City each year. About 227,000 passengers take PATH trains every day.
The proposal would need the approval of both states' governors.
