On the day that former FBI director James Comey testified before Congress, his New Jersey hometown watched closely.
Comey, who is from Allendale, drew crowds at two different local restaurants, which offered differing views of his appearance before Congress.
One such restaurant is the Allendale Bar and Grill, which has been owned by the same family for four generations. They say they know the Comeys very well, including James Comey’s father who still lives in Allendale.
Dick Williams, who remembers Comey as a high school basketball player, says, “He's going to be honest and anything he says here, you can take to the bank because he's correct and he's not going to embellish on anything."
While many of Comey’s supporters were found at the Allendale Bar and Grill, less certainty could be said about the patrons of the Tick Tock Diner in Clifton.
“You don't know whether he's telling the truth or he isn't," says Dennis Roman.
