Some New Jersey college students spent their weekend sprucing up the rooms of Isaiah House, an East Orange shelter for homeless teen girls.
The group of students volunteered to renovate the home with Be the Change, a Kean University organization. The students say they were happy to make the shelter feel like a home for the girls.
"We're bringing life back to the house for the girls so they can have a nice place to stay," Jessica Lorber, a senior at Kean, says.
Community members donated most of the furniture, carpets, bedding and decorations used in the home. While the renovation was taking place, the girls were housed in donated hotel rooms.
"It makes you feel so good knowing you're making a home for these girls," Elissa Hyder, a junior at Kean, says. "Not just a house or place to live, it's somewhere they can come to and feel comfortable."
