The wet weather on Saturday caused severe conditions across the Jersey Shore.
Heavy rain, eastern winds and an excessive high tide has caused beach erosion and coastal flooding in Manasquan.
"I didn't expect the flooding that we got today,” says Manasquan lifeguard captain Jay Price. “Main Street was cut off, Brielle Road was cut off, Ocean Avenue was the only egress we had… we're going to lose a lot of beach over the next day or so, but it's cyclical. It will come back."
Water covered entire yards and flooded roads, garages and cars of holiday tourists.
Manasquan resident Jim Hocko says this is not an uncommon event for the neighborhood.
"It's almost a normal occurrence when we have super high tides like this with a full moon, it happens often,” Hocko says. “It's always been flooded and will always be flooded, there's nothing they can do about it."
A coastal flood warning will remain in effect through Sunday morning, with 1 to 2 feet of inundation possible for low lying areas on the Jersey Shore.
While rain is expected to clear for Monday, lifeguards warn that the water will remain rough and encourage everyone to only swim in designated areas.
