(AP) - The Coast Guard came to the rescue of two people after their damaged boat took on water and sank in waters off the New Jersey coast.
Officials say the recreational vessel struck a jetty in the Barnegat Inlet on Thursday. A crew aboard a 24-foot shallow water vessel from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light soon responded and tried to dewater the vessel, but they couldn't keep up with the flooding.
The two people aboard the boat were transferred to the Coast Guard boat and brought back to the guard station. Their names were not released, but officials say no injuries were reported.
A commercial salvage brought the flooded boat back to shore.
