Closing arguments began Monday in the trial of the five alleged Fort Dix terror suspects.

The defense and prosecution painted radically different pictures of the suspects. Prosecutors say the suspects were bent on killing soldiers at Fort Dix. Defense attorneys argue their clients were manipulated by a paid informant and did not possess violent intentions.

"This is not a tremendously difficult case," Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Hammer says. "It's about five conspirators who were going to shoot and kill people. They were doing this to fight the jihad and kill members of the U.S. military."

Mahmoud Omar, the informant, was described by the defense as an international criminal, a fraud and an illegal immigrant. The defense argues Omar cut a deal with the FBI in order to stay in the country at any cost.

Closing arguments continue Tuesday.
