New York City's first lady weighed in on police-community relations in a new magazine essay.
In an article published in Essence magazine, Mayor Bill de Blasio's wife, Chirlane McCray, says, "I think we must acknowledge that being a police officer is a tough, tough job."
McCray also writes, "I mourned the step backward as the community reflected on the death of yet another unarmed black man."
The essay was submitted prior to the deaths of NYPD Detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.
