Gov. Chris Christie is urging Jersey Shore residents to confront property owners whose opposition has blocked a plan to erect protective sand dunes in some of the areas hardest hit by Superstorm Sandy.
Speaking at a press conference in Sea Isle City Friday, the governor said people should knock on the doors of oceanfront property owners in Bay Head, Point Pleasant Beach and other pockets of resistance to the dune plan, and ask residents why they won't sign easements to allow the dunes to be built.
Gov. Christie used some of his most forceful language to date to condemn Margate, which has wrestled the dune plan to a draw in federal court.
He calls Margate "among the most selfish people" in the state.
