With only three weeks remaining until the Republican gubernatorial primary, Republican candidate Chris Christie hosted a town hall meeting Saturday in Brick Township.
Residents showed up at the meeting with tough questions for Christie concerning federal stimulus money, taxes, transportation and the rising cost of living in the state. Christie says cost of living in New Jersey has been the most popular topic throughout the campaign.
"It's really a tax stew," Christie says. "We are over-taxed and people have lost hope. We are trying to give back hope."
Some in attendance were there to support Christie's rival, Steve Lonegan, though many who arrived undecided say Christie impressed them with his answers and his ability to attract Democrats and Republicans.
Gov. Jon Corzine, who was recently endorsed by Vice President Joe Biden, isn't facing any serious challenges in the Democratic Party. Corzine has yet to hit the campaign trail with full force, and says he will focus first on balancing the state's budget, which is facing a $2 billion shortfall. Chris Daggett, an independent, is also running for governor.
