With the gubernatorial primaries put to bed, voters' eyes are turning to who will be running for lieutenant governor.
Both Chris Christie and Gov. Jon Corzine are staying quiet on who will be running alongside them. The names being tossed around as potential candidates for lieutenant governor candidates include a number of state legislators, however.
Newark Mayor Cory Booker, one of the heavier hitters among New Jersey Democrats, has already stated he is not interested in running alongside Corzine. Names rumored to now be in contention for the Democrats are Sen. Nia Gill, Sen. Barbara Buono and Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman.
"You want that person to be working every day at a given job," says Corzine. "We don't have the ability to not have everybody pitching in and working full-time ? you obviously have to look at balance across the state."
On the Republican side, a handful of state senators seem to be in the mix. Sen. Dianne Allen, Sen. Bill Baroni, Sen. Jennifer Beck and Sen. Joe Kyrillos are all being discussed as potential running mates for Christie. Also in contention is Bergen County Clerk Kathleen Donovan.
"They have to be someone who is compatible with me from a policy perspective," says Christie. "Doesn't mean they have to be identical or agree on everything, but they have to be compatible with me personally."
