An attempted Chinese food delivery robbery went sour for a crook whose $16 order, turned in to a $5,000 bail.
Police say Thomas Oswin, college student and deliveryman for Chinese Wok in Middletown, was on his bike when he was approached by suspect John Wilczewski, 19. According to police, Wilczewski, of Keyport, had placed an order to be delivered on Jersey Avenue.
Oswin says Wilczewski threatened him with a weapon asking for money and the food. While pretending to reach for his wallet, Oswin took advantage of the situation and struck the offender multiple times, causing Wilczewski to flee. The suspect was apprehended not far from the scene by Detective Daniel Sullivan, of Middletown, with the help of the Keansburg Police Department.
"If the person has a weapon [and] you could be injured, I don't normally recommend [fighting],? says Sullivan. ?I'm glad it worked out in this case."
Wilczewski was charged with attempted robbery and making terrorist threats. He is being held on $5,000 bail.
