A man was killed and two other people were injured, including a child, when shots rang out in broad daylight in Plainfield Friday afternoon.
Plainfield police responded to the 300 block of Astor Place at around 2:30 p.m. Officers found three victims at the scene: an adult male, an adult female and a female child. All three victims suffered gunshot wounds.
The male victim was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. The adult female received medical treatment at the scene, while the child was transported to a local hospital for treatment of what police believe to be a leg injury that is not considered life-threatening.
Witnesses who saw the shooting say it was a drive-by.
The shooting is being jointly investigated by the Union County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force, the Plainfield Police Division and the Union County Sheriff's Office.
