Each year, National Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss!
The annual event is designed to encourage reading in children.
The tips below will help encourage your child to read:
1. HEAD TO THE LIBRARY
Visit your public library for all the resources you'll need. Your librarian can help you choose the book that is "just right" for your child.
2. STORY TIME
Attend a story time event to both engage your child and give you ideas on working with him or her every day. Listening to stories helps your child connect with the world.
3. SHARE BOOKS
Reading together is the very best way to raise a reader.
4. SOUNDS & MUSIC
Sounds are the building blocks of words. Find music to listen to and sign along with. Songs also add joy to the understanding of sounds and words.
5. NEW WORDS
Knowing many words helps your child build a strong vocabulary. So, play word games,
create a word wall, and make conversation a priority.
6. RHYMES
7. PLAYTIME
Playing together builds a loving bond between you and your child.
8. QUIET
Find a quiet spot and read!
