Students at Cedar Grove High School are planting flags to honor the nearly 3,000 people killed in the Sept. 11 attacks 16 years ago.
Most of the students were born after the attacks happened. They say that this is a good way for them to connect with the event that they now learn about as a history lesson.
“[They] really have no comprehension of what that day was like,” says organizer David Schoner. “So we always want to cause a conversation about that day so that we never forget.”
“It’s pretty cool to be honoring [the victims] by putting flags down,” says sophomore Alex Patacao.
The students are also attending seminars to learn about the attacks.
