The U.S. Center for Disease Control is reporting a new infection linked to six pet store companies.
According to the CDC, patients were infected with campylobacter, a common bacteria that can cause diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain, between Jan. 2017 and Feb. 2018.
In total, 118 people have been infected, and 26 of them became hospitalized.
The CDC is also advising pet owners to contact their veterinarians if they see signs of the illness in their puppy or dog.
So far, none of the infections have been deadly.
The CDC report does not name pet stores involved in the outbreak.
