A fire in Denville, which started in Cafe Crevier on East Main Street, is under investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office. Denville police say that no one was in the café when the fire started just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

The flames and smoke spread to the neighboring cafe, Chocolatine, a French bakery.

Ownership for both business have posted online that they will be closed until further notice.

Shannon Condon was a customer of both of the cafes.

“They’re both great. I actually was just at Café Crevier two weeks ago with a friend," said Condon. "It’s just really sad on all accounts, and I hope they can rebuild and get everything going as soon as possible an they don’t suffer too much of a loss from everything."

The loss is especially tough to see for those who work at other businesses in Denville.

Catherine DeCarolis works at Beignets, a donut shop along Broadway in Denville.

“It’s really devastating because you know those were two different businesses' livelihoods. so I can only imagine for us for something like that to happen here," said DeCarolis.

The area along Broadway in Denville has been growing and has become very popular as a weekend destination in recent years.

Two other nearby businesses suffered minor damage from the fire.
