(09/26/06) RED BANK ? Property taxes are a common complaint among New Jersey residents, but the high cost of living in Red Bank may actually end up pushing people out of town.
Some residents say they?re ready to move if taxes don?t level off sometime soon. One woman who just moved to the area three years ago claims she?s had enough and is prepared to split. However, Red Bank officials say an error by the community?s former financial officer is to blame for the skyrocketing taxes. They say a budget snafu left the town $400,000 in the hole, which has trickled down to residents.
Town officials say despite residents? complaints, taxes have gone up less than 2 percent in the last ten years. However, residents say that?s little comfort to them when they receive their tax bill.
