A high tension power line fell in Sayreville Saturday, causing a brush fire that forced a nearby body shop to shut down for the day.
The wire fell on top of the train tracks near the business. The tracks then became energized and quickly started several small fires.
"Thank God we are alive," says Mario Lucas, the owner of E and Z Auto Body. "Nobody got hurt, just material things."
The Forest Fire Service could not directly spray water onto the tracks until the power was turned off without risking electrocution.
Initially the downed transmission line knocked out power to 20,000 customers, but Jersey Central Power and Light says power has been restored to nearly all of those affected.
