Brookdale Community College has named its first female president.
The Monmouth County community college's trustees approved the appointment of Maureen Murphy yesterday.
Murphy replaces interim President William Toms, who was appointed last March after Peter Burnham stepped down amid an investigation into allegations of financial impropriety.
Burnham drew scrutiny from Monmouth County officials over perks in addition to his $216,000 salary that included a country club membership, a new vehicle and $267,000 for his two children to attend private colleges. County prosecutors continue to investigate those allegations.
Murphy will assume her new post July 1. She'll be paid $194,000 annually.
