Family members and neighbors gathered at a Bronx cemetery Monday to remember Cpl. Walter Fufidio, of the Bronx, and other fallen soldiers.
Fufidio was killed more than six decades ago in the South Pacific during World War II. His family members say he was originally buried on the island of Iwo Jima shortly after it was secured by United States troops. Fufidio's family was able to bury him at Saint Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx after the end of the war.
A ceremony is held each year on Memorial Day to honor fallen U.S. soldiers. Fufidio's family says, though they remember him each day, it is important to honor his sacrifice.
