Somerset County pharmaceutical company recalls nearly 90,000 bottles of children’s ibuprofen over foreign substances
A Somerset County pharmaceutical company has issued a voluntary recall of nearly 90,000 bottles of children’s ibuprofen after reports of "foreign substances" found inside the medication.
Strides Pharma, headquartered in Bridgewater, initiated the recall following multiple consumer complaints regarding a "gel-like mass" and black particles within the product.
The recall affects specific lots of the liquid pain and fever reducer with an expiration date of Jan. 31, 2027.
According to the company, the foreign substances were discovered by customers, prompting concern over the safety and consistency of the pediatric medication.
While specific health risks have not been detailed, the company is urging parents and caregivers to stop using the product immediately.
Retailers have been instructed to remove the affected lots from their shelves. Consumers should check the expiration date on packaging and return impacted bottles to the point of purchase for a full refund.
The FDA is monitoring the recall. Strides Pharma has not reported any confirmed illnesses or adverse reactions related to the contaminated batches.
