Fire crews battle junkyard blaze in West Milford as fires and explosions reported overnight

At midnight, Mayor Michele Dale said no homes were threatened but if there was danger, residents would be notified directly.

Firefighters are battling a fire at a junkyard in West Milford on Weaver Road, where explosions were reported overnight.

Crews from West Milford, surrounding towns and the New Jersey Forest Fire Service responded to the scene.

Officials said the fire began before 11 p.m. and included explosions through the night.

The fire is now mostly under control. The fire marshal is on scene investigating.

At midnight, Mayor Michele Dale said no homes were threatened but if there was danger, residents would be notified directly.

The West Milford Office of Emergency Management said Weaver Road is closed between Macopin Road and Otterhole Road until further notice.

Officials are asking people to avoid the area so emergency crews can work safely and efficiently.
