In Ocean County, a tree snapped in half in Toms River and stretched across a roadway, making travel difficult until cleanup is complete.
In Monmouth County, a tree fell onto a car, while other trees and wires blocked roads and caused power outages.
Utility companies report thousands are without power, with more than 2,800 outages from JCP&L and over 1,000 from PSE&G.
Conditions are improving for air travelers at Newark Airport after a ground stop tied to the storms was lifted.
