The Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center celebrated the grand opening of its new $3.3 million facility.

The facility has served kids while their parents are at work for seven decades, operating out of a century-old farmhouse.

Recently, the center has been in need of more space to care for children of working families on the East End.

“First thing everybody says is you’re in the Hamptons, you guys don’t need any money,” says Bridgehampton Child Care Center executive director Bonnie Cannon. “We’re in the Hamptons, but what they don’t understand is it makes it even harder for us to get funding because we’re in the Hamptons.”

The center received a $300,000 grant for a new facility from New York state. Private donors also helped chip in.

The new facility provides child care, a food pantry and after-school tutoring at a low cost.

Kayce Freed Jennings and her late husband, former "World News Tonight" anchor Peter Jennings, have supported the Hamptons center since the mid-1990s.

“The kids at the center are the future of the community, and the more we can do for them, the more support we can give to their parents, the better it is for community,” Freed Jennings says.

Around 200 children a year will benefit from the education and food programs at the center.
