The Route 71 Bridge, which crosses the Shark River in Belmar to Avon, remains closed after the drawbridge became stuck Wednesday.

Just after 5 a.m., the bridge became stuck in a partially open position. Larger boats couldn't pass through between the marina and the ocean because the bridge wasn't able to fully open. 

Crews were able to get the bridge in the open position allowing boats to safely pass by. However, now specialized engineers are needed to evaluate the damage and make repairs.

Detours remain in place. The Ocean Avenue Bridge and the Route 35 Bridge are open.
