Brick Township arrest numbers continue to climb after adding more officers

Police in Brick Township continue their pledge to improve the quality of life in the Ocean County community, and since adding additional officers to the drug enforcement unit -- arrest numbers keep climbing.

Police in Brick Township continue their pledge to improve the quality of life in the Ocean County community, and since adding additional officers to the drug enforcement unit -- arrest numbers keep climbing.

Following a shooting last month near Brick Memorial High School, Mayor John Ducey and Police Chief Jim Riccio said this must stop.

In that time, two officers were added to the selected enforcement patrol.

Not only did police make arrests in connection with that shooting, but they also arrested more than two dozen other individuals in that time -- and they're not finished yet.

According to Chief Riccio, police arrested four men near a Wawa in just one morning after complaints came in from people who live and work nearby, bringing the total number of arrests to 28.

Police are targeting areas known for drug activity, and where residents file complaints -- last Friday's arrests were for theft and drug activity.

Chief Riccio says a number of people charged are from out of town.

Riccio says the crackdown on illegal activity will continue throughout the township. He says so far, he's heard nothing but a positive response from the public.
