A 10-year-old boy was killed in a car accident Tuesday night on Orange Street and Myrtle Avenue after his mother?s car was crashed into by a stolen Acura in Newark.
Witnesses say the impact of the crash was so strong, the boy, who was not wearing a seat belt, went flying through a window. Emergency crews rushed the boy and his mother, 34-year-old Jocelyn Bretton, to UMDNJ, where he was pronounced dead by Wednesday morning.
According to the Essex County prosecutor, the stolen vehicle was noticed by police in East Orange, where it was driving recklessly alongside another stolen car. Police chased both the Acura and the BMW toward Newark, but backed off at the city line. The crash happened just a few blocks away.
Authorities arrested Eugene Reeves and Chad Pamplin, the driver and passenger of the stolen Acura. They are both being held on charges, which include receiving stolen property.
The BMW has yet to be caught by police. The Essex County prosecutor?s office asks that anyone with information call 973-621-4700.
