Several towns across New Jersey are delaying some of their Fourth of July celebration events due to extreme and dangerous heat this week.
New Jersey is expected to have a heat wave lasting through the weekend, with temperatures expected to reach triple digits by the end of the week.
Franklin Township, in Somerset County, has postponed its Independence Day celebration and fireworks from July 2 to July 10.
The MonmouthNJ 250 concert at ParkStage in Freehold was postponed from July 3 to July 17.
As for the “Rev, White & Blue” event – New Jersey’s official state America 250 celebration scheduled for Thursday, officials say it is still going on as scheduled, but with some safety precautions for the heat.
The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management says there will be cooling buses stationed at key areas, along with increased EMS staff. There will be 85,000 bottles of water available to purchase and guests are allowed to bring their own personal water bottles that they can refill at filling stations.
The event, featuring musician Nick Jonas, will be held at SHI Stadium at Rutgers University in Piscataway.
Those attending Fourth of July celebrations in their own towns should check in with their municipality to see if events are on as scheduled or will be altered due to the heat.
