A 10-year-old boy is in critical condition after getting caught in the crossfire of a dispute on the streets of Newark Monday.
The child was shot in the neck. He was reportedly riding his bicycle at the time.
The boy was taken to University Hospital. He is expected to pull through.
Police brought in Lawrence Cook, 29, for questioning in connection with the shooting.
Cook has a history with Newark's police department. He has prior felony convictions and has been arrested 11 times.
Mayor Cory Booker is angry the dispute ended in gunfire and that an innocent bystander was caught in the middle.
"This is unacceptable," he says. "To have a child in our city, an innocent child, lying in a hospital bed right now. Those days in Newark are gone. We will not allow this to happen."
