The borough of Emerson has a pretty clear way for homeowners to tell trick-or-treaters if they're participating in Halloween or not – signs.
Police tweeted two pictures that residents can print out and put on their front door either to welcome trick-or-treaters or to say, "sorry, no trick-or-treaters."
A sign that has a green check mark means "come on over", socially distanced of course. A sign with a red “X” on it is for residents who aren't participating.
The borough is asking all trick-or-treaters to follow New Jersey Department of Health guidelines.
