A Palisades Park church has been banned from taking in the homeless this winter after a death there.
Medical examiners have not released a cause of death yet, but the borough says it cannot house the homeless because the church does not have the proper permits.
The priest at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church was allowing a few day laborers to spend the night in the church's basement during the colder days this month.
Neighbors say they have seen many homeless people in the area and think there should be more shelters in the area for them.
The borough says the church is only permitted to use its basement as a storage or office area.
