Mayor Cory Booker is weighing options that could save Newark money on gas expenses.

According to Booker, Newark is in the process of its first-ever energy audit and is planning a full fiscal analysis of the gas crisis by the end of summer. Booker says the city is hemorrhaging money on fuel costs for city vehicles.

One plan the mayor is considering would call for city employees to use their own cars and then submit receipts for reimbursement.

"If I had to make the call today, we're going to head in that direction," says Booker. "Other cities have done it. It will save us millions of dollars."

According to the mayor, the rising costs are changing the way the city does business. He also says Newark is planning other moves to become more energy efficient.
