A device containing explosives that was in the driveway of a Bayonne house prompted a response from the bomb squad and forced evacuations Monday.
Bayonne police say they received a call from a woman who suspected her ex-husband had planted something in her car.
The device was found at a West Seventh Street home before 5 p.m. Bomb squad units responded with a robot to control the device and the surrounding area was evacuated as police tried to bring the situation under control.
Local officials also called in Port Authority police. Officials appeared to take a bag away from the scene at one point during their investigation.
Before 7 p.m. the bomb squad fired water into the device to break apart the wires. There was an explosion and the device was diffused.
Neighbors say they saw someone fixing the car earlier in the day.
