Boil water advisory lifted in Clifton after testing confirms water safety

The Passaic Valley Water Commission has lifted a precautionary boil water advisory issued after making repairs to a transmission main system in Clifton, officials said Friday.
The utility said water quality testing throughout the affected area confirmed the water meets all state and federal drinking water standards. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection reviewed the test results and approved lifting the advisory.
Customers in the affected area may resume normal water use, including drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth and washing dishes, according to the utility. Boiling water is no longer necessary.

The Passaic Valley Water Commission is encouraging customers to take several precautionary steps, including flushing cold-water faucets, cleaning or replacing faucet aerators and showerheads, emptying and cleaning ice makers and water dispensers, and servicing water filters and softeners as recommended by manufacturers.
The boil water advisory had impacted about 25,000 to 30,000 customers in Clifton and Passaic at its height on Thursday.
