A boil water advisory was issued in Bayonne following a major water main break in South Kearny.

Veolia Water says a 30-inch water main was damaged. This damage “caused customers within our service area to experience a significant loss of pressure” or to be without water service altogether. The company says that there is a potential threat to the quality of the water, hence the boil water advisory.

Bayonne officials say that Veolia customers in the city should bring their tap water to a rolling boil for one minute before it can be used for cooking or consumption. Bottled water is also an option. Officials advise residents not to rely on home water filter devices, as these will not protect against microorganisms.
