A January blizzard pummeled New Jersey with snow this weekend, leaving parts of the Garden State with nearly 2 feet of snow.

Bayville had the most snow in New Jersey with 21 inches. As expected, the Jersey Shore was hit the hardest by the storm.

But the snow did not stop some in New Jersey from going about their business. Pies Place in Bayville may have been one of the only restaurants in town that were open on Saturday.

“Our customers count on us. The public, essential workers, public works – they need somewhere to eat,” says co-owner Chris Burris. “The nurses, the doctors, the newscasters. They’ve got to eat somewhere too.”

Burris was out on his plow around 11 a.m. to clear the parking lot. He also picked up and drove every one of his employees to work.

“I don’t want to give them a reason not to come to work. But definitely, so they’re safe and I know that they’re good,” says Burris.

Burris says with all the driving he’s done, he’s only got stuck in the snow once. He credits the local Department of Public Works for clearing the roads.

Other areas of the Jersey Shore had 16-19 inches of snow.

Long Beach Boulevard on Long Beach Island was plowed well enough that cars were able to travel easily. Side streets were also clear.
